Description

Chorba Frik is a traditional Algerian soup made with freekeh and vegetables.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup freekeh
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 cup chickpeas, cooked
  • 1/4 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 cups vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. Rinse the freekeh under cold water.
  2. In a pot, sauté the onion until translucent.
  3. Add carrots, bell pepper, and tomatoes. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add cooked chickpeas, freekeh, and spices. Stir well.
  5. Pour in the vegetable broth. Bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
  7. Add parsley and adjust seasoning. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  8. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Freekeh can be found in most grocery stores.
  • Adjust spices according to your taste.
