Description
This New Orleans sweet bread features a cinnamon filling and bright icing. You serve it during Mardi Gras celebrations.

- 1 cup warm milk
- 0.25 cup melted butter
- 0.33 cup white sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 large egg
- 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 0.5 cup brown sugar
- 0.25 cup softened butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon purple sanding sugar
- 1 tablespoon green sanding sugar
- 1 tablespoon gold sanding sugar
Instructions
- Whisk warm milk with yeast and white sugar in a large bowl.
- Mix in melted butter and the egg.
- Stir in flour and salt to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for five minutes.
- Place dough in a greased bowl and let it rise for one hour.
- Roll the dough into a large rectangle on your counter.
- Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll the dough into a long log starting from the wide edge.
- Form a ring with the log on a baking sheet and pinch the ends together.
- Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes.
- Whisk powdered sugar and two tablespoons of milk to make a glaze.
- Pour glaze over the warm cake and top with colored sugars.
Notes
- Place a small plastic baby inside the cake after baking.
- Keep the milk temperature between 105 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
