Description

Inarizushi is a Japanese dish consisting of sushi rice wrapped in sweet, marinated tofu pockets.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 10 inari age (fried tofu pouches)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Combine rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Heat until sugar dissolves.
  4. Pour the mixture over the inari age and let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  5. Once the rice is cooked, let it cool slightly and fluff it with a fork.
  6. Fill each inari pouch with sushi rice, pressing gently to pack it in.
  7. Sprinkle sesame seeds and green onions on top of the rice.
  8. Serve immediately or chill before serving.

Notes

  • You can add vegetables or protein to the rice for more flavor.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Inarizushi is best served fresh.
