Description

Moroccan Spiced Meatballs in Shakshuka Sauce is a flavorful dish that combines tender meatballs with a rich, spiced tomato sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 eggs

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, parsley, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, pepper, and egg. Mix well and form into meatballs.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add onion and garlic. Sauté until onion is translucent.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes, sugar, and cayenne pepper. Stir to combine.
  5. Return meatballs to the skillet. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. Make wells in the sauce and crack eggs into each well. Cover and cook until eggs are set, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Serve hot with bread or rice.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground lamb for a different flavor.
  • Adjust the spice level by adding more or less cayenne pepper.
  • This dish pairs well with crusty bread.
