Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Coarse salt for topping
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add flour and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
  6. Divide dough into 8 pieces and shape into pretzels.
  7. Boil water and baking soda in a pot. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds.
  8. Place pretzels on a baking sheet. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. For cheese dip, melt butter in a saucepan, add milk and cheese, stir until smooth.
