Description
South African Bobotie is a savory dish made with minced beef and topped with a creamy egg custard.
Ingredients

- 500g minced beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon curry powder
- 2 slices white bread
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons chutney
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1 tablespoon slivered almonds
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a pan, sauté onions and garlic until soft.
- Add minced beef and cook until browned.
- Mix in curry powder, chutney, Worcestershire sauce, raisins, and seasoning.
- Soak bread in milk, then mash and mix into beef.
- Transfer mixture to a baking dish.
- Beat eggs with remaining milk and pour over the beef mixture.
- Sprinkle slivered almonds on top.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until custard is set.
Notes
- Serve with yellow rice and raisins.
- Can be made a day ahead and reheated.
- Adjust curry powder to taste.
